The incomparable William Castle (The Tingler) directed this unusual western, produced by B-movie icon Sam Katzman (The Giant Claw). After the U.S. government purchases land from Mexico, a cavalry Major (Robert Stack) is sent to broker peace between the Mexicans and the Apaches, who both despise each other. Further complications arise when the Comanches try to stir up even more trouble. The solid cast includes John Hodiak (Lifeboat) as Cochise, plus Joy Page (Casablanca), Fortunio Bonanova (Citizen Kane) and a gag cameo by silent comic Snub Pollard as a barfly. Beautifully shot in Technicolor at the world-famous Vasquez Rocks, this is a rugged, action-packed adventure for those looking for something off the beaten trail.

Critics Consensus: Crudely effective and effectively crude, Strays is more amusing than hilarious, but this comedy's scattershot humor is partly offset by its surprisingly big heart.
